‘Progress’ was the ethos of humanity in the Eurocentric world during the 18th and 19th centuries. Utopia was promised if people could keep developing society, technology, knowledge and science. Now, the ethos of progress has congealed into global culture and advancing technology and making more ‘stuff’ goes unquestioned.
This exhibition seeks to dust-off the notion of ‘progress’, examine it and reconsider if it is still bringing humanity closer to Utopia. Who benefits from ‘progress’? And at what cost? Who suffers at the hands of ‘progress’? Artists: Elosie Cleary, Gavin Coote, Fabric & Flora, Dakota Feirer (and Anthony Smith) and Lucia Hayes.
