Sun, Sand, and Wagging Tails
Oh, the sand between my paws! Wollongong offers a dog-friendly paradise with several beautiful beaches where we can roam off-leash and enjoy the coastal wonders.
Among my cherished spots are the idyllic shores of Little Austinmer, the serene McCauley’s Beach, the inviting East Corrimal, the peaceful Coniston Beach, and the vibrant MM Beach in Port Kembla.
What’s even better is that dogs have the freedom to explore these green zones without the constraint of a leash at any time. However, when journeying to or from these green zone beaches, remember that your pup must remain on a leash, including on all pathways leading to these coastal havens.
These green zone beaches encompass a variety of picturesque locations, including parts of Stanwell Park Beach, Bellambi Beach, Fairy Meadow Beach, Puckeys Beach, and Perkins Beach. Always ensure you check the beach signs for specific details about the zones to make the most of your dog-friendly beach adventures in Wollongong!
Parks and Picnics: Playtime Galore
Some personal favorites include the charming McCabe Park in the heart of the city, as well as Proud Park in Helensburgh, Figtree Oval, and Riley Park in Unanderra. For those times when your pup craves some off-leash freedom,
Wollongong offers dedicated off-leash dog parks: Proud Park in Helensburgh, Figtree Oval in Figtree, Riley Park in Unanderra, King George V Oval in Port Kembla, Reed Park in Dapto (which is fenced), and Eleebana Reserve in Koonawarra. Remember that while heading to or from these off-leash parks, your four-legged companion should remain on a leash at all times to ensure their safety and that of others.
The Blue Mile is also a lovely spot to take your dog for an on-leash with a round trip spanning 4 kilometers, dogs are required to remain on a leash throughout the entire journey along the picturesque Blue Mile. This well-loved shared pathway stretches from Stuart Park in North Wollongong to the southern side of the city. Check out more HERE
