As I walked towards the beautifully curated fan zone, I could hear ringing cowbells, loud claps, and cheers. The crowd cheered for every cyclist that passed by no matter which country they were from or what their position was in the race.
I found my way through the crowd and reached the barricades. It was amazing to be able to see the race up close! As soon as the next set of cyclists passed by, I was one with the crowd – cheering loudly and clapping as loud as I could.
The weather couldn’t die down the excitement nor the electrifying vibes. The weather played games, but I was ready an umbrella in my hand. It poured heavily for a few mins and after a while the sun shined bright.
The weather change didn’t deter the crowd. Everyone, including me, were glued to our places watching the race with all the excitement. Once the cyclists passed by where we stood, we turned our heads to the big screen that was right next to where we were standing. The helicopter view of Wollongong was mesmerising, and it was an amazing sight to see about 200 cyclists cycling together over the Sea Cliff Bridge. Breath-taking views around the cycling tracks. The helicopter views made me appreciate the beauty of Wollongong on a level that I hadn’t experienced after having stayed here for over 9 months!
